Features of HUFS TESOL
Realize your English education dream and become a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) professional at HUFS, the leader of foreign language education in Korea.
HUFS has a rich history of foreign language education over the past 60 years, to include 45 different languages.
The system of 4+1, 4 months of TESOL courses at HUFS and a one-month overseas internship at an American University, is utilized and concludes with a scholarship that will be granted to those who participate in the internship. After completing the internship, the TESOL certificate will be granted in the name of the American University.
If you do not attend the overseas internship, you can acquire a TEE (Teaching English in English) certificate via a two-week English seminar held in Korea.
All of the professors are English native speakers who lecture in various departments at both the undergraduate and graduate level at HUFS. They are well-qualified professors with a wealth of varied teaching experiences here in Korea and abroad.
Since there are many events every semester, such as special lectures by internationally known English education scholars, you can meet world-class educators who will stimulate and challenge you.
You can directly observe and learn teaching skills by attending the "National English Teachers' Teaching Contest" hosted by HUFS that targets excellent incumbent English teachers.
Through these special lectures that are imbued with a teachers' sense of duty, you can experience an impressive school field and have the right literacy as a teacher in your mind.
Since the Multimedia Assisted Language Learning (MALL) and English testing fields among others are emphasized, HUFS TESOL teaches advanced English education techniques.
When entering the Master´s course in either the Graduate School of Education or the Graduate School of TESOL, fixed credits are admitted. Extra points are also added when entering either of these programs, to include the awarding of scholarships to current elementary, middle, and high school teachers.

The Importance of HUFS TESOL
Now, English has risen to the position of an international language, not simply a native language of only certain countries (i.e. the U.S., England, Australia or Canada). Whoever you meet anywhere in the world, English is the quintessential medium of communication.
At a time when language exchange with people in other countries due to the development of communication and transportation, speaking English fluently is important to everyone - not the exclusive property of certain people.
TESOL is learning with the meaning of 'Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages,' and is considered very important in any country by historical necessity. Just 10-20 years ago, anyone who graduated from any department of English literature, and who could translate English and had grammatical knowledge, taught English in our field.
But now, teachers who just teach English only with knowledge about the English language have no ground to stand on.
TESOL is the field which covers pedagogy, psychology, anthropology, and English linguistic knowledge. When English teachers master this literacy, they can teach learners well.
In addition, knowing is one thing and teaching is another. The essential content of TESOL is to make learners interested so that they can study with interest by effectively delivering the knowledge as well as knowledge of English.
Now, English education should make students motivated to learn by using useful techniques in the field instead of being limited to the theoretical study of the past.
